Charlette Larsen Obituary

Charlotte Mae Larsen, 82 passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 peacefully in her home in The Dalles, Or. after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born August 30, 1932 in The Dalles, Or. at her Aunt Rose and Uncle Jack Martin's ranch on Mill Creek. Her parents were Nellie (Creaser) and William Cramer of Klickitat, Wa. Charlotte was the second of four children and she lived in Klickitat, Wa. and The Dalles, Or. until she entered first grade. At that time the family left the area and made the first of several moves following her father's work in the sawmills. They lived in several places, including Mowitch, Or. and Alturas, Ca. Charlotte told many stories of her life growing up in mill towns and Oregon's back country. She told about the isolation of very rural life and the hard times of the Depression, but also stories of the beauty of the remote woods, her mother's wonderful wood stove cooking, and all the fun times she and her brother, Billy had playing pranks and getting into trouble. Charlotte graduated from Madras High School in 1950 and married her sweetheart, Louis "Jay" Larsen, the same year. For a brief time the newlyweds lived in the Bay area of California while Jay was in the service, but once he returned home from Europe, the couple settled in Madras, Or. Jay had and automotive repair shop.and Charlotte began working for U.S. Bank. Their daughter, Deborah Ann, was born Christmas Day, 1955. In 1970, the family moved to Portland to be closer to the special schools and medical care that Debbie needed. Charlotte continued to enjoy her work at U.S Bank and worked in many capacities until she retired as an auditor in the late 1990's after 47 years of service for that company. Jay, Charlotte and Debbie moved to Dufur, where they lived until Jay's death in 2002 and then Charlotte and Debbie moved to The Dalles, Or. Charlotte loved her memories of camping and other trips with her family. She loved to visit with company and to joke and laugh a lot and will be remembered as a good friend and a great cook who was always sending people home with delicious food to try. Most of all, she will be remembered as a devoted mother to her daughter, Debbie. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; her parents; her siblings Arlene Cramer, Audrey Cramer, and William Cramer, Jr. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Deborah Ann Larsen, of The Dalles, Or.; her nieces: Kristy (Dick) Bremmer of Portland, Kathy (Lindon) Higbee of Roseburg, and Karla (Jason) Briggs of Roseburg, Or.; her nephews William Cramer lll of Reedsport, Or.; and Kurtis Cramer of Portland, Or.; her great nieces and great nephews; and by special friends, Shannon and Dennis Morgan and their daughter, Madeleine, of The Dalles, Or. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Dufer Pioneer Cemetery. Debbie requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Three Rivers Humane Society, (PO Box 66, Madras, Or. 97741).
