Verna Charette

Millinocket – Verna M. (Santerre) Charette, 79, joined her husband, Leon “Guy” Charette, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Millinocket Regional Hospital. She was born June 21, 1935 to Herbert and Louise Santerre. Verna grew up with 13 loving brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by brothers Wilfred “Freddie” Santerre, Clarence “Doc” Santerre, Delphis “Del” Santerre, and Richard Santerre. She lovingly leaves behind her two brothers, Ernest “Ernie” Santerre and wife Anne of Gilbert, Arizona and Herbert “Joe” Santerre and wife Patricia of Colchester, Connecticut. She leaves her six sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Raymond of Land of Lakes, Florida, Florence “Flossie” Picard of Millinocket, Irena Tapley of Millinocket, Rena Hughes and husband Al of Millinocket, Ernestine “Tine” Quackenbush and husband Harold of Millinocket, and Mary-Ann St. Peter and husband Harold of Millinocket Lake. She also leaves two sisters in law, Mary Santerre and Joan Santerre. Verna and Guy left Millinocket in 1965 to live in Waterbury, CT, where she lovingly raised their six children. She leaves her children, Dr. Arthur Charette and wife Evangeline of Sonoma, California, Marcella “Marcie” Kittle and husband Stephen of Cape Coral, FL, Peter Charette of New Britain, CT, Leon Charette and wife Lynn of Plainville, CT, Kevin Charette of Orlando, FL, and Kim Stavnezer and husband Louis of Millinocket. Verna leaves behind seven grandchildren who she loved dearly, Mathew Kittle of Tuscon, AR, Nicholas Kittle of Orlando, FL, Carly Charette of Plainville, CT, Camille Charette of Sonoma, CA, Claire Charette of Sonoma, CA, Louis Stavnezer of Millinocket, and Ryan Stavnezer of Millinocket. She was dearly loved by all her nieces and nephews, of which there were 145, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. Verna was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She placed everyone’s needs before her own. She was a devout Catholic and never deviated from her faith in God’s perfect plan for her life. She faithfully prayed and served God and is now in God’s loving embrace. A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 19 Colby St., Millinocket. Gifts in memory of Verna may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
