James Michael Whittenburg, 59 of Atkins passed away in his home, surrounded by family on February 19, 2015. “Mike” was born in Russellville, AR on June 29, 1955 to Edna Mae and James Whittenburg. He was a graduate of Atkins High School, American College of Surgeons Emergency Medical Technician school, and successfully completed the A&M Private Pilot Ground School. Mike worked as an Electrician for AP&L for 21 years, and then pursued his dream of owning his own business, “Whittenburg Electric.” His passion was family but his hobbies were hunting and fishing. Mike was also a proud member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Boy Scouts of America, Lions Club, Quail Unlimited, National Rifle Association of America, Wildlife Confederation, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, North American Hunting Club, Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and the American Hunting Union. Mike was predeceased by his Parents James and Edna Mae Whittenburg of Atkins. Mike is survived by Fiancé Roxanne Decker Jackson of Conway, Two Daughters and a Son-in-Law Amy Carpenter and husband Kole of Atkins and Molly Whittenburg of Little Rock, Two Grandsons Mac and Madx (Moose) Carpenter of Atkins, Brother David and wife Robbi Whittenburg of Atkins, Half-Sister Rita Travis of Atkins, Half-Sister Billie and husband Dale Brown of Atkins, Two Aunts Marilyn Anthony of Greenbrier and Sue Church of Atkins, Two Special Nephews Preston Hernandez of the United States Army and Payton Hernandez of the United States Navy, formerly of Atkins, and many deeply loved extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, at Atkins Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 5:30-7:30 PM, Friday at Lemley Chapel. Pallbearers are Jerome Cassell, Andy Wiley, Steve Lemley, Ricky Don Johnson, Danny Webb, Danny Cheek and Charlie Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are the former and current Entergy crew, Preston Hernandez, Payton Hernandez, Mac Carpenter, & Madx (Moose) Carpenter.
