Mrs. Loraine (Meadows) Hess, age 75, of Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Saturday (February 14, 2015) at Clinch Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. Born March 28, 1939 in Page, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Loran Linkous and Vernie Mary (Cox) Meadows of Honaker, Virginia. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Pentecostal faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Grady Hess; brothers, Ernest Meadows, C.B. Meadows, Charlie Coy Meadows, Roy Meadows and John Henry Meadows and one brother-in-law, Raymond C. Vanover; one sister-in-law Jettie (Hess) Jones and son-in-law, Tim Shortridge. Survivors include daughter, Colleen “Cookie” Shortridge and fiancé, Brian of Oakwood, Virginia, adopted daughter, Cynthia (Ray) Vanover and husband, Raymond L. “Coochie” of Sugar Grove, Virginia; two grandsons,, Steven Todd Keen and wife, Janie of Fletcher’s Ridge, Virginia and Tyler Allen Shortridge of Oakwood, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Jade Keen of Fletcher’s Ridge, Virginia; two sisters, Shelby Jean Vanover of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Anna Jean Carter and husband, Danny of Motvale, Virginia; brothers, Roger Lee Meadows and wife, Pat of Tazewell, Virginia, Larry Jo Meadows and wife, Alma of Bandy, Virginia, Loran “Buddy” Meadows and wife, Lilly of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Terry Russell Meadows and wife, Sherry of Whitewood, Virginia, William Ray “Bill” Meadows and wife, Wilma of Rowe, VIrginia; sisters-in-law, Judy (Charlie) Meadows of Oakwood, Virginia, Linda (Roy) Meadows of Sugar Grove, Virginia and Pinkie (Hess) Killen of Richlands, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Cook and Rev. Brandon Estep officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be surviving brothers and John Meadows, Kevin Meadows and "Coochie" Vanover. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home where a song service will be conducted at 7 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.honakerfuneralhome.net.
