Walter D. “Walt” Mazelin, 82, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at his Clearwater, FL home. Walt was born on December 5, 1932 in Adams County, IN to the late John K. and Lena C. (Amstutz) Mazelin. On September 3, 1960 he married Ruth A. Unland. Walt was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was owner and operator of Walt’s Motor Sales. He was a 50 year member of the 32nd Degree Mason F&A.M. Decatur Lodge #571. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite Ft Wayne Valley, Mizpah Shrine, and the Adams County Shrine Club. He was awarded many honors including the Peoples Magazine Award, a 5 Star Award for Chrysler Plymouth numerous times and served on the Jeep Advertising Board. From birth, Walt was stricken with Cerebral Palsy; it never slowed him down nor kept him from achieving his goals and dreams! He is survived by his wife of 54 years Ruth A. Mazelin; a son Terry (Fiancé Jane Gray) Mazelin; two daughters Lisa (Dan) Schurger and Lori (Tony) Wilder all of Decatur and his dog Zach; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by an 8:00 p.m. Masonic Service. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31st at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with calling 1 hour prior. Pastor Chris Gadlage will be officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Memorials are to the Shriner Children’s Hospital.
