Earl Lloyd Murphy, 86, of Manassas, VA, passed away January 13, 2015 at Novant Health Prince William Medical Center following a massive stroke. Earl was born August 8, 1928 in Littleton, WV, to the late Charles H. Murphy and Dessie Church Murphy. Earl retired in 1990 from Washington Gas – Ravensworth Station in Springfield, VA, after 27 years as a controlman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Athya Murphy, whom he married on January 12, 1951 in Rockville, MD; his parents; three brothers, Ralph Murphy of Bridgeport, WV, Raymond Murphy of St. Clairsville, OH, and Glenn Murphy of South Charleston, WV; and one sister, Evelyn Murphy Bailey of Phoenix, AZ. Earl is survived by one daughter, Mary Colleen Murphy Wampler of Manassas, VA; two sons, Charles R. Murphy (Denise) of Manassas Park, VA and Patrick L. Murphy of The Plains, VA; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, VA.
