Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth McGlothlin, age 86, of the Grissom Creek section of Buchanan County, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (January 13, 2015) at her home following a brief illness. Born August 28, 1928 in Venia, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Elijah Henry “Doll” and Mary Ellen Harris Hess. She was a member of Fletcher’s Ridge Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Aaron McGlothlin, three brothers, Elmer Hess, Dewey Hess, and Hobert Hess, five sisters, Ethel Shope, Cora Clayton, Hattie O’Quinn, Dora Harris, and Gladys Compton, and one grandson, Shane Joey Presley. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include two daughters, Eva Stinson of Lebanon and Thelma McGlothlin of Old Grissom Creek Road and John Hess of Richlands; two sons, Eddie McGlothlin and wife, Reva of Rowe and Dale McGlothlin of Honaker; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Daniel Barton and wife, Charlotte of Grissom Creek, Chester Darin McGlothlin of Michigan, Terry McGlothlin and wife, Christy of Wytheville, Stephanie Adams and husband, John of Lebanon, Sheena McGlothlin of West Virginia, Dennis McGlothlin and wife, Natasha of Combs Ridge, and Chelsea McGlothlin of West Virginia; six great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Dennis McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in the McGlothlin Cemetery on Stinson Ridge, where committal services will be conducted by Rev. Guy Harris. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Daniel Barton, Chester Darin McGlothlin, Terry McGlothlin, Dennis McGlothlin, Dylan McGlothlin, Zackery Barton, Brittin Barton, Michael James, John Adams and Aaron McGlothlin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Fletcher’s Ridge Freewill Baptist Church, John Hess, Kennie Ball, Marlie Ball, Jordan Ball, Rean McGlothlin, Raymond Compton, Elmer Ball, Garfield Hess, Gregory Austin, Mack Presley, and Garrett Harris.
