Barbara Meuser
Barbara J. Meuser, age 76, of Milford, beloved wife of John F. Meuser, died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, surrounded by family and sustained by her deep Catholic faith. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on February 1, 1938 to the late Lillian C. (Sliney) Riccio and Robert C. Macy and was their only child together. Barbara graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School, Class of 1956, with her special friends, Bunny and Carole, and worked as a secretary for Kish Realty in Fairfield into her mid-twenties. Barbara was married to John F. Meuser for almost 55 years, and raised their four children in Fairfield, CT, and Loughton, Essex, England. Barbara and John moved to Milford for their retirement in 2000, and they enjoyed being near the ocean and their close relationships with neighbors and church family. Barbara thrived in her roles as wife, mother, grandma, “grammy,” and selfless caregiver to her mother and other ill family members throughout her life. A wonderful cook and hostess, Barbara cherished opportunities to share these gifts with others. An avid genealogist, she traced her Macy roots back to the Mayflower and beyond, and lovingly saved heirlooms of her family’s past. She enjoyed hunting for treasures at estate sales with her daughters. Barbara took special pride in her grandchildren, cherished her time with them, and made photos of them a focal point in her home. Survivors include: her husband John, daughters Maureen Rispoli (Bill) and Sarah Meuser (Robert), and sons Thomas Meuser (Christy Scheidt) and John Meuser; five grandchildren, Paul Meuser, Aaron Meuser, Jeremy Meuser, Zoe Meuser, and Lillian Rispoli; several half siblings (predeceased by stepbrother Anthony Riccio); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday January 5th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, with a Mass of Christian Burial and interment at nearby St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday January 4th from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 North Broad Street, Milford.
