Edwin Waite Obituary

Millinocket – Edwin Waite, 92, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at a Millinocket hospital. He was born February 19, 1922 in East Millinocket, the son of Norman L. and Flora M. (Boynton) Waite. Edwin was a graduate of Medway High School, class of 1939. He served in U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot. He was a Prisoner of War in Germany, and was very proud of his service. Edwin was a life member of the V.F.W., and the D.A.V., and was also a member of AARP and Donald Henry Post #80 of the American Legion. In 2012, Edwin was honored by being awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during his service. He is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Sheridan and her husband Thomas of Millinocket, a beloved granddaughter, Melissa Sheridan; special grandsons, Randy and Matthew Barker; two step children; several step grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Edwin was predeceased by the love of his life, his first wife, Mary Jean (St. John) Waite, his beloved son, David Edwin Waite, his second wife Evelyn (Jewers) Barker, and nine siblings, Pauline, Doris, Cora, Eleanor, Gertrude, Lera, Norman, Ross, and Jack. Graveside services with military honors will be held at the East Millinocket Cemetery in the springtime. Gifts in memory of Edwin may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
