Carl J. Congini Obituary

Carl J. (Cy) Congini, 91, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of December 20, 2014 at the Haven Nursing Home. Born in New Castle on December 5, 1923, Carl was the son of the late Antonio and Santa Casillo Cangiano. Preceding him in death on April 29, 2005 is his wife, the former Sylvia Sherman, whom he married on September 26, 1956.


He was a member of St. Vitus Church. Carl was a veteran of U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Carl was a graduate of Youngstown College. He was the owner and operator of Snow White Dry Cleaners on the south side of New Castle and was also the owner of Cy’s Auto sales on the eastside of New Castle. Carl was a race horse enthusiast and owned race horses. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who devoted his life to the caring of his son, Mark.


He is survived by his children, Kim Stassinopoulos and husband Nick of Miami, FL, John Congini and his wife Kathy of Columbus, OH, Mark Congini of Miami; his sister, Sue Peluso of Rome, NY; three grandchildren, David Congini, Kylie Pearson, and Nikos Stassinopoulos; and one great-grandchild, Nolan Pearson. In addition to his parents and wife, Carl is preceded in death by his three sisters, Mary Ryan, Teresa Dinucci, and Antoinette Exposito and his two brothers, John Cangiano and Vincent (Jim) Cangiano.


Visitation is Monday from 4PM to 7PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:00PM officiated by Deacon John Carran.


Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
