Genevieve Huggard

Genevieve Jean “Granny” Huggard, age 81 of Ludington passed away peacefully on Monday Dec. 15, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 4, 1933 in Centreville, daughter of the late James and Julia (Horton) Gilland. She married John Huggard, and he preceded her in death after 35 years of marriage on January 13, 1990. Genevieve worked as a nurse’s aide at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington until she retired in 1989. She also farmed for many years with her husband John in Victory Township. Genevieve was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed knitting mittens for her kids and grandkids, was an avid University of Michigan football fan and Detroit Tigers Fan and Genevieve enjoyed traveling with her husband, children, and grandchildren and enjoyed these trips the most when she left without a plan. Genevieve is survived by her daughters, Sherry Huggard of Ludington, Dixie (Russ) Spore of Scottville, Kathleen (Rick Wellman) Schwass of Scottville; sons, Rocky (Leslie) Huggard of Ludington, Rick (Shana) Huggard, Bob (Mary) Huggard both of Scottville, Jeff (Lisa Vineyard) Huggard of Ludington; step-son, Douglas Huggard of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Tom Gilland of Ludington, Kyran Gilland of Traverse City; sisters, Mary Ellen Darling of Grand Rapids, Irene Hoffman of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and brothers, Mike, Ed, Morrie, Pat, Terry and Joe Gilland. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday Dec. 20, 2014 at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Thomas Hack celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:30AM until time of funeral mass. Burial will follow at North Victory Township Cemetery in Ludington.
