Mary Day Obituary

Mary M. Day, 75 years old, passed away December 13, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Mary was born at home in Manchester , Maine on July 28, 1939. She is the daughter of Brian and Julia Wheeler Day. Mary attended schools in Augusta, Maine and was a homemaker most of her life, raising 5 children. Mary met Joseph Cates in 1989 and in 1991 were joined in marriage by a Native American ceremony; making their home in Madison, Maine. During their twenty-six years of marriage, Joe took loving care of Mary through her many illnesses. When she was well, she enjoyed coming to the coast – enjoying the lighthouses, the tranquility of the ocean, and eating lobster. When traveling with her grandchildren, she enjoyed camping and shopping. When her son, Billy, visited she would have him bring Chinese food and salt water taffy. Mary enjoyed old time country music and would even sing “Funny Face, ‘I Love You’” to the children. Mary was smiling every day. She and her smile will be sadly missed by her family; and at her request, there will be no services. Survivors include: Three sons: Bryan Shaw and his wife, Ina, of Rockland; Billy Gonzales of Waldoboro; and John Oyola and his wife, Yantsa, of Ocala, Florida; Four daughters: Kathleen Flanders and her husband, Walter, of Rockland; Terry Bramhall and her husband, William, of Friendship; Judy Ventry and her husband, Darren, of Phippsburg; Rosita Poland and her husband, Levi, of Cushing.
