David R. Adamski, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2014 in Manistee, Michigan, where he was born and raised, and lived his entire life. He was born August 2, 1924, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Janiszewski) Adamski. He attended Manistee High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, landing at Normandy Beach on D-Day plus 14, then working on a Howitzer gun crew as the Allies advanced into Germany. He was part of a unit that participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After the Allied victory, David was honorably discharged on February 26, 1946. Using skills he began learning in the military, David worked as a home builder and finish carpenter for more than 40 years. He married Colleen (Jacobs) Adamski on June 22, 1946, and remained with her for 64 years, until her passing on September 29, 2013. David was also a skilled woodworker, and specialized in building grandfather clocks, along with other furniture pieces and wood novelties. He sold his products at art fairs around the state for many years, hundreds of which are still in use. He was generous in sharing his skills, and donated many of his works to charity. He was also well known for his ability to repair clockworks. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Manistee, and was grateful for the fellowship and assistance of their members. David is survived by his children, Dale (David) Courtney, of Racine, Wisconsin; Kristie (Tom) Olsen, of Petoskey; and David (Kathy) Adamski of Hudsonville. Grandchildren are David John Courtney, Saul Christopher Courtney, Adam Lane-Olsen, Jacob Olsen, Michael Adamski and Philip Adamski. He also has seven great-grandchildren. His sisters, Barbara A. Picardat, Carol Mae Bowling, Lorraine Susan Bachinski, and Lois Marie Shea. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Elizabeth Kerry and Marilyn Jean Petersimes-Gilman. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Congregational Church in Manistee. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Manistee United Veterans Council Ritual Team will conduct military honors at a family graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee.
