Barry Mensch Obituary

Barry Ralph Mensch, 68, passed away peacefully at Royal Univeristy Hospital on Wednesday December 10th. Barry was born on August 28, 1946 to Frank and Frieda Mensch and was raised on a farm near Langenburg. Barry attended Flower Valley Country School and later graduated from Langenburg in 1964. On October 12, 1968 Barry married Pauline(Arndt) and they took up residence in Langenburg. He began working at the potash mine at Esterhazy. In 1969 when Barry secured work with Noranda (Mosaic) at the Colonsay Potash Mine he and Pauline moved to Young. He spent 37 years at the mine, the majority of those as a shift supervisor. It was in Young that Barry and Pauline had their three children, and formed friendships that to this day are their dearest treasures. In 1979 Barry and his family moved to an acreage outside of Watrous which provided space for the horses, one of his fondest passions. He spent many hours in his workshop on various wood projects, from chests for grandkids, to things for Pauline's flower garden. He retired from the mine in 2006, but kept busy doing carpentry jobs with Bob Lay at Green Acres Greenhouse and around Watrous. Barry challenged himself by taking guitar lessons after retirement, and would spend time daily mastering his skills. In 2008, he and Pauline, took the first of their six missions trips to Honduras. These trips had a huge impact on Barry, his faith and he would often get teary eyed talking about the Honduran people and how grateful he was for the opportunity to impact their lives with his building skills. He was very proud of his family, taking great pride and pleasure in watching their many activities. He will be remembered for his practical jokes, his love of teasing and the nicknames given to his loved ones and friends. His gentle heart, quiet strength, deep faith and the joy he found in the simple things are some of the many things he leaves as a legacy. Barry will be missed by his wife Pauline of 46 years; mother Frieda; children Brent (Melanie) Mensch, Haley (Garry)Bistretzan, Greg (Jadah) Mensch; grandchildren Rachael & Taylor Mensch, Delaine, Dyson & Tanna Bistretzan, Jacee, Lauren, Bryn & Luke Mensch; sister Marilyn (LLoyd) Sedens, Sisters-in-law Shirley(Jack) Van Vaals, Lois Suchar and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Frank, Mother and Father-in-law Emil and Olga Arndt, Brothers-in- law Walter Arndt, Paul Arndt, Alex Suchar, Sister-in-law Hazel Arndt.
