It is with great sadness that the family of Alma Catherine Tanner, 98, of Lunenburg and formerly of Bridgewater, announces her passing on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in First South, she was the daughter of the late Naaman and Jennie (Parks) Cook. In her early years, Alma worked in the family grocery business and then went on to work for 22 years at National Sea Products/Highliner Foods. Active in her community, she was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, the Talent Club of the church and a former member of the Alexandra Rebekah Lodge # 22. Many will remember Alma fondly for her love of sewing, but nothing gave her more joy than the times she spent with her family. Alma is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn MacDonald, Chester; sons, Wayne (Sheila), Lower Sackville; Leslie, Nanaimo, BC; brothers, Gerald (Maxine), Bridgewater; Cyril (Myrna), Bridgewater; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, son-in-law, Douglas MacDonald; and brothers, Roseville (Edna) and Newton (Kaye) Cook. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A graveside committal service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg, Rev. Dr, Laurence Mawhinney, officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care or to a charity of your choice.
