Mary Pearo Obituary

Mary R. Pearo (Francis) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on December 9, 2014. Mary died peacefully in her 80th year at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario after a series of illnesses during which she felt fortunate to have the support of her family and many friends in her community. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Bill Pearo (1996), her parents, William and Roxana Francis and brother Monty of Moncton N.B. She was a generous and devoted mother to daughter Susan Krenek (Steve) and sons Raymond (Carolyn) and Ross (Lisa) and a proud and loving Gram to Sarah, Caitlin, Ben, Danielle, Alex and Sophie. Beloved sister of Connie Fields (Hinson) and sister-in-law Beth Pearo. Mary was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to a World War One veteran and railway station master, and his wife Roxie, a homemaker. She moved to Halifax as a teenager in the late 1950’s to attend nursing school and it was there that she met her future husband and partner Bill, a native Cape Bretoner. Mary left nursing when her first child was born but retained her RN designation for much of her life and became active again in the profession when her children were grown. The family moved to Beaconsfield, a suburb of Montreal, in 1967, where Mary made many friends with whom she would remain in touch for the rest of her life. Mississauga was her home for the last 35 years. Mary was a volunteer at the Lorne Park Public Library and the Credit Valley Hospital and for the last many years she enjoyed her Book Club meetings and classes at the ORC where she had so many good friends who truly cared about her. She also enjoyed her participation in many activities with these friends, often visiting Stratford and Niagara-on-the Lake during the theatre season. She had the good fortune to have travelled widely and to have visited often her children living in the U.S. Mary will be sadly missed by her family, neighbours and many lifelong friends. It was Mary’s wish that there be no service and that those wanting to do so consider making a donation in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society or the Salvation Army.
