Carl (Lee) Hoopingarner Obituary

Carl Lee Hoopingarner, 81 of Decatur, IN passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital. Lee was born on January 11, 1933 in Uniondale, IN to the late Carl and June E. (Brentlinger) Hoopingarner. On December 20, 1953 he married Patricia J. Mitchell. Lee was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and taught Sunday School. He retired in 1990 from North Adams Community Schools as Vice Principal of Bellmont High School, formerly taught at Bellmont Jr. High, Northwest Elementary and Adams Central School Corp. Lee coached baseball, basketball, and cross country and was a softball pitcher in High School and many years after. He was a past member of the Decatur Rotary Club, a member of the National Education Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Past President of North Adams Teachers Association, and Past President of the Adams County Retired Teachers Association. Lee served his country in the United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia J. Hoopingarner of Decatur; a daughter Sherre (Mark) Arnold of Paducah, KY; two sons, Michael (Bev) Hoopingarner of Indianapolis, IN and Thomas (Theresa) Hoopingarner of Tucson, AZ; two brothers Bob (Marjorie) Hoopingarner of Fort Worth, TX and Terry (Jeanne) Hoopingarner of Huntington, IN; a sister Jan (John) Hyland of Ossian, IN and a sister-in-law Kitty Hoopingarner of Annadale, VA; 7 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Jerry. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Woodcrest Porter Auditorium. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with calling 1 hour prior to services. Pastor Chris Gadlage will be officiating and burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Memorials are to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
