G.S. "Red" Brassfield Obituary

Mr. G.S. "Red" Brassfield, 75, of Coldwater, MS, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. Mr. Brassfield was born on February 27, 1939 to The Late Minnie Rakestraw Brassfield and Ernest J. Brassfield in New Albany, MS. He was a retired elevator constructor and was a member of Bett Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In his own words, Red described himself as a "Blessed man," and when asked how he was doing, would always reply "I'm better than I deserve." He was strong in his faith and his beliefs and will be missed by his loving family and friends. Mr. Brassfield is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Holt Brassfield; two daughters, Donna Brassfield Gates (Howard) and Gaye A. Brassfield; one son, Terry Lee Brassfield (Jinna), all of Independence, MS; two sisters, Mary Todd and Hazel Smith, both of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Brassfield on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 3pm in Bett Baptist Church with Bro. Alvin Whitehead officiating. Visitation will be held in the church on Sunday from 1-3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bett Baptist Church Building Fund. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home - Senatobia Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
