LaVerne Elsie (Lange) Buttron, 95, formerly of Lancaster, KS passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Atchison Medicalodge. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, November 28th, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Lou Davies officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lancaster United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. LaVerne, or Bunnie, as she was affectionately known to her many friends and family, was born on May 17, 1919 in rural Huron. She was the daughter of William and Selma (Fuhrman) Lange. Bunnie attended elementary school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1936. She was also a graduate of the Atchison Business College after which she was employed at the Commerce Acceptance Company in Atchison. Bunnie was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, the Homemaker’s Club, and was the last surviving member of the 20th Century Club. She helped to organize the Atchison County Farm Wives who went to Washington, DC to appeal to Senator Dole for fair farm prices. She was a homemaker, farm wife who enjoyed working side by side with her husband doing chores and working in the fields. She later worked as a secretary for the John VanDyke Insurance Agency and then for the Karl Scholz Insurance Agency. She enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting Afghans and sewing quilts for her great grand babies, decorating her home, taking care of her beautiful lawn and reading. Her favorite activity was gathering her family and preparing delicious holiday dinners for as long as she was able. Bunnie will always be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Bunnie was the Huron Princess candidate for the Atchison Bridge Dedication in 1938 and was in attendance also for the new bridge dedication on Dec. 4, 2012. Bunnie was married to Karl Buttron on November 10, 1939. They had been married 68 years before he passed away on April 27, 2008. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie (Larry) Smith, Atchison, KS., a son, James Buttron (Shelley Pruett), Lancaster, KS.,a sister, Ruby Winchester, Denton, KS. Seven grandchildren, Lynnette (Scott) Kracht, Karl L. (Brenda) Buttron, Lori (Rick) Bobki, James Buttron, J.Scott (Susan) Smith, Rex Buttron, and Cindy Pratt. Great grandchildren include; Bryan (Ashley) Kracht, Jamie (Adam) Madison, Alyssa (Andrew) Feldkamp, Jessica, Shelby and Jaden Buttron, Madison and McKenzie Kracht, McKenzie, Bailey and Tanner Buttron, Cody and Kyleigh Bobki, and step great grandchildren, Andy and Mat Edwards, Madison Gill, Trinity Sigmon, and Alyssa Myers, There are two great great grandchildren; Jaxon A. Feldkamp and Clara R. Kracht and one great great on the way.
