Mr. Carl William Steele, age 77, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Thursday (November 13, 2014) at Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon, Virginia. Born August 16, 1937 in Swords Creek, Virginia, he was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Swords Creek Community Baptist Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Honaker High School and a 1957 graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College. A retired heavy equipment operator, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Allen Steele and Mark Anthony Steele, one son-in-law, Terry Brown, his mother, Eula Quick Steele, his father, Winfred James Steele and wife, Jessie, maternal grandparents, Arthur Quick and wife, Eliza, and paternal grandparents, Tom Steele and wife, Maud. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Ruthie Steele of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Brown, Kaye Lester and husband, Ralph all of Swords Creek, and Valerie Lee McCulley of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Steven Wayne Lester and Erin LeeAnn Lester; one sister, Shelby Johnson and husband, Sam of Honaker; one brother, Bill Steele and wife, Louise of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins, Rev. Arnold King, and Bro. Les Ritchie officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery on Horton Ridge, Virginia. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Justus, Houston Miller, Randy Hughes, Clifford Perkins, Gary Lawson, Jerry Clark, and Doug Whitt.
